Russia has got access to a new airbase in the north of Syria following restoration of the "Jeyrah" airfield.
Both Russian and Syrian warplanes will be housed at the base. As part of a ceremony to mark the event, the two parties staged a show with demonstration flights, landings and paratroopers.
Units of the Syrian Special Forces demonstrated the skills to deal with imaginary enemy, Russian defense ministry said. In addition, the SAR servicemen parachuted on Russian Arbalet-2 parachutes with the flags of Russia and Syria.
During the restoration work, lighting equipment and other elements of the airfield were repaired. Thanks to this, the "Jeyrah" airfield can now receive any type of aircraft and helicopters of army aviation. The control tower was equipped with modern equipment and safety of the air harbor was enhanced.
Fortifications at the airfield have been restored, and joint duty of the air defense forces of Russia and Syria has been organized.
