Crew of the Russian T-90 Proryv tank are being trained to engage and defeat NATO tanks such as Abrams, Leopard and Challenger that are due to be handed over to Ukraine in the coming months.
Ukraine is set to receive hundreds of NATO tanks including from the U.S., Germany and U.K., for the coming summer offensive against Russian forces in occupied Ukraine. These tanks are said to be more than a challenge for the best of Russian tanks such as the T-90, T-72 and Armata.
The Russian Ministry of Defense (MoD) revealed its plans to combat NATO tanks in a training video released today. In the video, T90 tank crew can be seen being tought how to take on the highly rated NATO tanks.
Russia defense ministry said, during the training, the T-90M Proryv tank crews “study the weakest and most vulnerable places” of the Western-made tanks and also “hone their skills in fire training and control of a combat vehicle.”
Moreover, gunners and tank commanders are trained to give target designations and engage targets at a distance of up to four kilometers; drivers hone their skills in overcoming terrain obstacles, it said.
The tank crews will begin their missions in the area of the special military operation once the combat cohesion is completed.
Russia claims it has destroyed 8,326 Ukrainian tanks and other armored combat vehicles so far.
In contrast, Ukraine has claimed destorying over 5000 Russian tanks during the last one year.
