South Korea is endorsing a defense project to buy unspecified number of Boeing CH-47F Chinook helicopters to replace the Army's aging heavy-lift choppers.
State arms procurement agency Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) said Tuesday that the Defense Project Promotion Committee approved a 1.49 trillion-won ($1.15 billion) plan to acquire the helicopters through 2028.
Seoul is expected to purchase some 20 CH-47Fs to replace CH-47D helicopters.
