Turkish arms maker, Aselsan is set to unveil its ‘Gurz’ short range air defense system (ADS) combining a missile and cannon similar to the popular Pantisr-S ADS of Russia.
The formal unveiling will take place at the IDEF arms fair starting July 25 in Istanbul.
The Gurz is based on a wheeled 8×8 vehicle platform and is aimed to combat UAVs, helicopters. The ADS will protect both fixed facilities and convoys in transit against air threats.
The Gurz Air and Missile Defense System consists of a 35mm Air Defense Gun (Particle Ammunition Family ATOM, HEI, TP), 4 Very Low Altitude Air Defense Missiles, 4 Low Altitude Air Defense Missiles, Active Phased Array (AESA) Search Radar, fire control radar, electro-optical sensors and data link.
While MANPAD Missiles such as SUNGUR or STINGER are used against Very Low Altitude threats, BOZDOGAN Missile is used as the Low Altitude Missile.
Gurz's patent images were shared as 'Turkish Pantsir' on social media about a year ago. However, GÜRZ is predicted to have much more advanced features than a Pantsir, reports in Turkish media said.
