PT PAL Indonesia Cuts Steel of First Landing Ship for the Philippines
Philippine Navy's strategic sealift vessel BRP Tarlac (LD 601)

PT PAL Indonesia has begun construction of first of two Landing Dock Philippines (LDP) ships for the Philippine Navy.

Manila bought these two LDPs in June 2022. The contract followed a $92 million project that was awarded to the company in June 2014 to construct two vessels of the type for the Philippine Navy's sea-based transport and logistics requirements.

LDP ships are 124 meters long with a standard displacement of 7,200 tons, and have a cruising endurance of 30 days. The design will feature some alterations compared to the in-service Tarlac-class ships. The LPD will be capable to sail up in waters up to sea state 6, as well as operating ship facilities at sea state 4.
