Turkish Ministry of Defense tested Roketsan-designed AKYA heavyweight torpedo at different depths and speeds, and said it has entered the inventory of the Naval Forces Command.

AKYA is replacing U.S.-made Mk46 and German-made DM2A4 Heavy Torpedoes in the inventory of the Turkish Navy. It is being armed on GÜR, Preveze and Reis submarines.

AKYA is a high speed, long range, fully autonomous or fibre optic wire guided torpedo with active/passive sonar homing head. In addition, AKYA employs wake homing guidance for surface targets.
