Damen has enlisted the Dutch company Heinen & Hopman to provide climate and filtration systems for the four new frigates currently under construction for the Netherlands and Belgium.
The contract encompasses a comprehensive Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration system (HVAC-R). Additionally, Heinen & Hopman will supply a Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear filtration system (CBRN) to ensure the ship's and crew's protection against chemical, biological, or nuclear threats.
These four Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) frigates are set to replace the existing Karel Doorman-class multipurpose frigates, originally constructed between 1985 and 1991 by Damen Naval (formerly known as Koninklijke Maatschappij de Schelde). While the new frigates can perform various tasks, their primary focus will be anti-submarine warfare. Damen Naval aims to deliver the first ship in 2028.
Damen Naval and Heinen & Hopman have a history of collaboration on multiple projects. Heinen & Hopman previously supplied HVAC-R systems for the Joint Support Ship HNLMS Karel Doorman, the currently under-construction Combat Support Ship Den Helder, and the SIGMA Frigates commissioned for Indonesia, Morocco, and Mexico.
