Northrop Grumman has received a directive from the U.S. Navy to enhance the cockpit and computing architecture of the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye aircraft with Delta System Software Configuration 6 (DSSC 6) technology, slated to continue through 2028.
The modernization efforts under DSSC 6 encompass the Hawkeye Cockpit Technology Refresh and Theater Combat ID, promising advanced capabilities and improved performance for the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye.
One of the key highlights of this upgrade is the incorporation of an open mission systems architecture within DSSC 6. This architecture will facilitate the integration of new functionalities and non-proprietary applications from industry partners, offering greater flexibility and adaptability to the U.S. Navy.
A comprehensive fleet-wide retrofit is scheduled to begin in 2029, extending throughout the 2030s. It will encompass updated cockpit systems, navigation technologies, and mission systems, underscoring the commitment to keeping the Navy's airborne early warning and control capabilities at the forefront of technology.
