Sailors of a combat support ship that DAMEN is building for the Netherlands Navy will be able to view its detailed insides thanks to a virtual reality model which the Dutch shipbuilder has developed.
DAMEN Naval has created an immersive VR model of the Combat Support Ship (CSS) Den Helder, allowing crew members to explore the ship's details before it's built—a first-time collaboration with the Royal Netherlands Navy. The VR model, meticulously designed with DAMEN's Cadmatic software, replicates every aspect of the ship, enabling virtual tours during its physical construction.
Collaborating with the Ministry of Defence's maritime simulation center and COMMIT, DAMEN Naval delivered the VR package to the Navy's training institute. This training tool enhances crew preparedness and can extend to training maintenance engineers and security personnel.
Progress on the CSS Den Helder is evident, with successful diesel generator testing. Sea trials are scheduled for early 2024, with delivery to COMMIT later that year. The Royal Netherlands Navy will finalize preparations for the ship's official commissioning in 2025. DAMEN Naval's pioneering project sets the standard for future advancements in naval construction and training.
