The maiden flight of the AH-64E Apache Version 6.5 demonstrated Boeing's integration of software upgrades that augment its capabilities and enhance the pilot interface.
The upgraded E-model Apache is known as Version 6.5 or V6.5. The U.S. Department of Defense asked Boeing to upgrade the helicopter in December 2021.
V6.5 comes with a range of software updates that significantly bolster the Apache's capabilities while also providing valuable improvements to the pilot interface. Notable enhancements included in this version are optimized route and attack planning, upgraded Link 16 features, and the integration of an Open Systems Interface. This integration is a pivotal step towards implementing a Modular Open Systems Approach, promoting increased interoperability, faster integration processes, and the deployment of advanced capabilities in the field.
Building onto V6.5, the company is working with the U.S. Army to integrate the Improved Turbine Engine (ITE). The engine, a General Electric Aerospace T901, will offer improvements in reach, available power, time on station and fuel efficiency, as well as sustainment improvements like health and usage monitoring, maintenance and engine lifespan.
