Kongsberg Naval Services (KONGSBERG) has secured a strategic framework agreement with the Norwegian Defence Material Agency for operational support, maintenance, and life-extending services on Norway’s frigates.
Under this agreement, Kongsberg will serve as the primary supplier responsible for managing ship technical maintenance, implementing modifications, and carrying out life-extending activities on Norway’s Fridtjof Nansen-class frigates.
Kongsberg will work in close coordination with partners, including shipyards Westcon Yards and Coast Center Base (CCB), along with WilNor Governmental Services (WGS) and Wilhelmsen Ship Management (WSM). Additionally, a cooperation agreement was signed with Navantia to ensure support services from the original shipyard that constructed the frigates.
The total value of the agreement is up to NOK 17 billion ($1.5 billion) for services delivered throughout its expected duration until 2040. Notably, this "life extension" initiative differs from a comprehensive "mid-life update" program, as Norway plans to expedite its frigate procurement program to replace the remaining four Fridtjof Nansen-class frigates currently in service.
