The German Bundeswehr and Airbus Helicopters have finalized a contract for the acquisition of up to 82 H145M multi-role helicopters, marking the largest-ever order for the H145M and the HForce weapon management system.
The agreement includes 62 firm orders and an additional 20 options. The seven-year contract encompasses support and services to ensure optimal deployment. The German Army will receive 57 helicopters, while the Luftwaffe's special forces will receive five.
The German Air Force, having gained operational experience with the H145M LUH Special Operations Forces fleet, is set to receive the helicopters in an ambitious delivery schedule, with initial deliveries slated for 2024, less than a year after contract signing.
The H145M is a versatile military helicopter, swiftly configurable from a light attack role to a special operations version, featuring fast rappelling equipment. Mission packages include hoisting, external cargo capabilities, and options for future capabilities such as Manned-Unmanned Teaming and upgraded data links and communication systems.
The ordered H145Ms will have fixed provisions, including the HForce weapon management system, allowing Bundeswehr pilots to train on the same type used for operations and combat. This approach eliminates costly type transfers and enhances professionalization.
The Bundeswehr currently operates 16 H145M LUH SOF and 8 H145 LUH SAR helicopters.
Powered by two Turbomeca Arriel 2E engines featuring full authority digital engine control (FADEC), the H145M is equipped with the Helionix digital avionics suite, reducing pilot workload during missions with a 4-axis autopilot. Its low acoustic footprint positions the H145M as the quietest helicopter in its class.
