An international partner has awarded Rheinmetall a contract for the supply of Fuchs 2 components, enabling the production of a three-digit number of wheeled armored vehicles.
The order, valued in the three-digit million-euro range, was booked in December 2023 and includes conversion kits and spare parts packages. Delivery of these kits for production and conversion is set to commence in 2024 and will continue through 2028, Rheinmetall announced Monday.
The production will take place at a facility in the partner country, which has witnessed increased added value and strategic investments in recent years to ensure better machining, welding, and surface treatment.
The Fuchs series, a 6x6 wheeled armoured vehicle, has been in service with the Bundeswehr for almost 50 years. Fuchs is deployed by armed forces globally in various roles, including as an armoured personnel carrier, mobile command post, field ambulance, and for NBC reconnaissance.
The advanced Fuchs 2, an evolution of the Fuchs 1, boasts a larger interior, a more powerful engine, an updated chassis, improved modern protection, and a digital electrical system. The Bundeswehr, with around 940 Fuchs vehicles in its inventory, continues to rely on the Fuchs series, including 272 units of the enhanced Fuchs 1A8 version. The Fuchs 1A8 offers significantly improved protection against mines and improvised explosive devices, featuring structural changes to the hull, new seats and seat suspension systems, reinforced wheel housings, doors, and window mountings, along with additional storage boxes and exterior reinforcement.
