MBDA Advances Tactical Drone, AKERON MP Missile Systems Development with Greek Collaborations

Europe’s multinational missile and missile systems manufacturer MBDA has signed two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with Greek companies MILTECH and ALTUS, specifically focusing on the development of AKERON MP missile systems and equipping a Greek-made drone with AKERON missiles.

The agreements were formalized on February 6, 2024, as part of the broader strategic partnership between France and Greece established in 2021.

The "R&D Booster" initiative aims to foster long-term collaborations within Europe and strengthen ties between MBDA and the Hellenic Defence Industrial Base. The focus of these partnerships is on the development of systems based on the AKERON MP missile.

The first partnership, with MILTECH, involves the development of an AKERON MP launch kit. This kit is now being promoted globally as an option for light automatic turrets equipped with low-calibre guns. The aim is to tap into the global market for such systems.

The second agreement with ALTUS focuses on the collaboration to develop tactical drones equipped with AKERON MP missiles. The initial phase of this partnership will involve validating the integration of AKERON MP missiles on ALTUS’s new ATLAS 8 HEAVY LIFTER UAV.

These development projects are positioned to complement existing initiatives in the production, services, and research and development sectors. The overarching goal is to solidify the relationship between MBDA and the Hellenic Defence Industrial Base.
