Electronic Warfare System, “Krasukha-2O” Likely Jammed Signals of Aircraft Carrying UK Defense Secretary

The jamming of satellite signals of an aircraft carrying British Defense Secretary Grant Shapps as it flew close to Russian territory of Kaliningrad may have been caused by Russian electronic warfare system “Krasukha-2O."

“Taking into account the frequency ranges of operation, we can come to the conclusion that the most technically advanced electronic warfare systems “Krasukha-2O” and “Krasukha-4”, operating in the ranges of 1 - 4 GHz and 8 - 18 GHz and equipped with parabolic antennas, were involved in the suppression arrays capable of generating “interference beams” less than 1 degree wide in the above wave ranges.,” the Russian Weapons Telegram channel reported.

The U.K. government announced Thursday that the Royal Air Force jet carrying Shapps, officials and journalists “temporarily experienced GPS jamming when they flew close to Kaliningrad” on a flight from Poland to the U.K.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s spokesman, Dave Pares, said “the jamming didn’t threaten the safety of the aircraft at any point.” He said it was not unusual for aircraft to experience electronic jamming near Kaliningrad.

The Times, whose reporter was onboard, said that for about 30 minutes mobile phones couldn’t connect to the internet and the aircraft was forced to use alternative methods to determine its location.
