The Ukrainian Armed Forces have established an Unmanned Systems Command to coordinate the deployment of land, air, and sea drones across various military branches.
Vadym Sukharevskyi, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, has been appointed as the Commander of the Unmanned Systems Command. He stated that the new structure is a response to battlefield experience. The new command will unite tasks related to supporting and developing unmanned systems units, Military reported
The new command, symbolized by a swallow, marks a significant shift in military organization, uniting efforts to support and develop unmanned systems. According to First Deputy Minister of Defense Ivan Gavrylyuk, this innovation will enable Ukraine to strike enemy forces at unprecedented depths, from frontline positions to distant strategic targets.
"Ukraine is the only country in the world that is already completing the integration of this type of troops," Gavrylyuk remarked.
Currently operating in a test mode, the Unmanned Systems Command is poised to evolve based on ongoing needs and feedback. Its mission includes providing units with drones, technical support, recruitment, and training of specialists. Furthermore, the command will oversee the planning of operations involving unmanned systems and ensure effective interaction with manufacturers.
Sukharevskyi assured that the new structure will not disrupt existing units but will instead bolster them with specialized support. "We will by no means take and drag units from the brigades that are at the front today; it will be destructive. We will deal with specific tasks and support," he explained.
The command is already collaborating with 90% of domestic drone manufacturers and has state contracts with over 125 producers. This initiative supports the Ukrainian President's goal of producing more than a million FPV drones, a target expected to be exceeded.
"The state's program to scale up the best examples will allow us to provide our units with the necessary means next year," Sukharevskyi concluded, underscoring the comprehensive strategy to equip and enhance Ukraine's military capabilities.
