Safran Electronics & Defense unveiled its Advanced Cognitive Engine (ACE), an artificial intelligence system designed to integrate AI capabilities into all Safran Electronics & Defense products at the ongoing Eurosatory-2024 exhibition in Paris.
The ACE system aims to enhance situational awareness, provide decision support, and reduce cognitive load for military forces in the field.
ACE improves target detection, classification, and identification by mitigating environmental effects such as atmospheric turbulence and low light conditions. Its advanced tracking and automatic target detection features further reduce the cognitive burden on users during missions. The system's capabilities are adaptable to various environments, including flat open landscapes, deserts, and jungles, ensuring optimal performance in diverse conditions.
Branded as "ACE on board," these capabilities will be integrated into land vehicles, aircraft, naval sights, and portable optronics products. Additionally, ACE will be incorporated into Safran Electronics & Defense drones and robotic systems, enabling more efficient fleet management and operation.
The system addresses ethical concerns associated with AI use by maintaining human operators at the core of decision-making processes.
Initially, the ACE capabilities will be available on an external processor. Future implementations will see these capabilities built directly into equipment through dedicated electronics. Safran Electronics & Defense plans to release updates for the ACE system twice yearly to adapt to evolving operational needs.
