Boeing has entered into a contract with Lockheed Martin Australia to supply the deployed communications components for the Australian Defence Force’s (ADF) next-generation Joint Air Battle Management System (JABMS) under the AIR6500 program.
Boeing Defence Australia (BDA) will provide hardware and software solutions for voice and data services within the JABMS command and control framework.
Boeing Defence Australia's distributed network system, currently operational within the ADF, incorporates various transmission mediums such as Wideband Global Satellite, fibre optics, and public networks. This system integrates advanced system management and networking software to ensure continuous communication services, enhancing operational awareness and command capabilities.
In April 2024, Lockheed Martin Australia secured a AUD$500 million contract from Australia's Department of Defence for AIR6500 Phase 1. This initiative aims to develop the Joint Air Battle Management System (JABMS), aimed at bolstering integrated air and missile defence capabilities through advanced technologies. The eight-year collaboration includes early deployment of an Operator Evaluation System, allowing Defence to evaluate and provide feedback on AIR6500-1. The system's architecture includes integration of four new Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radars from CEA Technologies in Tranche 1, which are designed to extend detection ranges and enhance response capabilities. Tranche 2 will further enhance situational awareness and interoperability with coalition partners.
