Leonardo has announced a capability enhancement program for its M-346 integrated training system at the Farnborough International Air Show.
This initiative aims to upgrade the aircraft's avionics, navigation, mission equipment, and ground training capabilities to meet modern training and operational demands.
This effort aligns with Leonardo’s digitalization roadmap and long-term strategy, benefiting both training and fighter variants. The new designations, "M-346 T Block 20" and "M-346 F Block 20," represent these upgrades.
Key updates include a redesigned cockpit with large area displays and augmented reality helmet displays, improving the human-machine interface to match future combat systems. The Block 20 standard will also integrate new navigation and weapon management systems.
Specifically for the M-346 F variant, enhancements include an AESA radar with fire control capabilities and integration of new air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons, alongside a missile datalink.
The Ground Based Training System (GBTS) will incorporate virtual reality and AI, enhancing training through multimedia courses and simulation. Digitalization will support technical maintenance and the "connected fleet" concept, using data analytics for improved logistic support.
