The United Engine Corporation (UEC) under Rostec has inaugurated a new production site at the Ufa enterprise ODK-UMPO, aiming to accelerate production of engines to power MC-21 and Sukhoi Superjet SSJ-100 airliners.
This facility features Russia's largest domestically produced hot isostatic press, designed to enhance the production of parts for PD-8 and PD-14 engines, used in MC-21 and SSJ airliners. The project saw an investment exceeding 3 billion rubles.
The opening ceremony was attended by Industry and Trade Minister Anton Alikhanov, UEC General Director Vadim Badekha, and UEC-UMPO Managing Director Evgeny Semivelichenko. Spanning 2,000 square meters, the site hosts a press developed by ZAO Drobmash.
Minister Alikhanov stated, "This project is crucial for achieving independence in aircraft manufacturing and defense orders, as it eliminates reliance on imported titanium parts." The new equipment is expected to lower costs by reducing the need for international transportation.
The facility will enable continuous gas-static testing of titanium and aluminum castings, essential for the PD-14 and PD-8 engines.
Vadim Badekha highlighted the expansion of UEC's production capabilities, noting, "We aim to produce over 3,500 engines by 2030 under our aviation development program."
The plant's hot isostatic press will improve casting quality by removing gas shrinkage porosity and enhancing material homogeneity. This development supports UEC’s goal to boost domestic civil aviation engine production.
