Elbit Systems has been awarded a contract worth $190 million to supply its Iron Sting laser and GPS-guided mortar munitions to the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMoD).
The contract will be performed over a period of 2 years.
The Iron Sting, designed for use with a 120mm mortar, integrates both GPS and laser guidance technologies, enabling it to precisely target and neutralize objectives with a range of up to 10 kilometers. This advanced munition is equipped with a multi-mode fuze offering Point Detonation (PD), Point Detonation Delay (PDD), and Proximity Sensor (PRX) modes, ensuring versatility in various combat scenarios. Its rapid loading time of approximately 15 seconds enhances operational efficiency.
Yehuda (Udi) Vered, General Manager of Elbit Systems Land, Said “This award further solidifies our position as a leader in precision-guided solutions. With urban warfare increasingly prevalent, the demand for accurate technologies that reduce collateral damage is more critical than ever. Iron Sting addresses this need effectively.”
In addition, Major-General (Res.) Eyal Zamir, Director General of the IMoD, has signed an order exceeding $220 million for thousands of Iron Sting munitions. These PGMs are expected to significantly boost the operational capabilities of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), particularly in complex and urban combat environments.
The IMoD Directorate of Defense Procurement (DOPP) has fast-tracked this acquisition in response to rising global conflicts, ensuring that IDF forces are equipped with cutting-edge technology that enhances both effectiveness and safety in the field.
