The U.S. Army Special Operations Aviation Command (USASOAC) awarded Boeing a $115 million contract to deliver two more MH-47G Block II Chinook aircraft.
The contract was signed in June, Boeing said in a release today. Including the new order, the Army has contracted for a total of 46 MH-47G Block II aircraft.
The MH-47G Block II is a modified Chinook helicopter for special forces, featuring improved avionics, inflight refueling, defensive systems, and low-level weather piloting aids. Defensive aids include CMWS, RF countermeasures, XM16 dark flares, and laser warning systems. The reinforced airframe, redesigned fuel tanks, and avionics enhance global reach capabilities. The Block II design allows for future modernization and features a monolithic fuselage, long-range fuel tanks, and advanced cargo-handling capabilities. Powered by two Honeywell T55-GA-714A engines, the MH-47G transports troops, vehicles, equipment, and supplies, and is armed with two sets of M134 Miniguns and M240 machine guns. It has a crew of two pilots and three crew chiefs or aerial gunners.
