Italian Navy Orders Fourth OSN Offshore Patrol Vessel

The Italian Navy has exercised an option to purchase a fourth Offshore Patrol Vessel (OPV) and related logistic support from Orizzonte Sistemi Navale (OSN), a joint venture between Fincantieri (51%) and Leonardo (49%).

The total value of the contract is approximately €236 million.

In the coming days, OSN will finalize sub-contracts with Fincantieri (€163 million) and Leonardo (€70 million). The transactions are considered related-party transactions but are exempt from procedural requirements due to applicable regulations.

The OPV program aims to modernize the Italian Navy's fleet, providing capabilities for maritime surveillance, patrolling, and protection. The new vessels will contribute to ensuring adequate capabilities for presence and surveillance, maritime patrolling, merchant traffic control, and protection of lines of communication and the exclusive economic zone.

The new vessels, built at Fincantieri's Riva Trigoso and Muggiano Integrated Shipyard, will feature advanced technological solutions, automation, and maneuverability. Key features include a naval cockpit, developed by Leonardo and Fincantieri NexTech, allowing for integrated ship and airborne operations management by a two-person crew.
