Safran Electronics & Defense expands U.S. footprint with small satellite propulsion system manufacturing to meet growing demand in commercial and defense markets.
The announcement was made during the 2024 Small Satellite Conference in Logan, Utah.
The company will produce the EPSX00 system through its U.S.-based subsidiary, with the first delivery expected in the first quarter of 2026. It is establishing a new production facility in Colorado to support the projected growth of the North American small satellite market, which is anticipated to exceed $5 billion by 2030. This facility will also host Safran’s U.S. team for satellite communications and space & ground domain awareness.
The EPSX00 system, featuring the PPSX00 thruster, will help the spacecraft move safely and efficiently in Low Earth Orbit (LEO). It prevents collisions and aids in disposing of old satellites, with a long-lasting thruster that works for up to 5,000 hours.
