Russia’s Rubin Central Design Bureau has announced the unveiling of the Amur 950 attack submarine, specifically designed for export, at the Army-2024 exhibition in Kubinka, Moscow Region, from August 12 to 18.

Derived from the Project 677 (Lada-class) submarine design, this model is equipped with ten vertical launch systems (VLS) for BrahMos missiles. The Amur-950's BrahMos vertical launch feature appears to be tailored for the Indian Navy, building on Russia's earlier bid for the Project 75I submarine program with the AMUR 1650. Rubin has also reportedly offered to co-develop the Amur 1650 with India.

The Amur 950 is a modernized variant of the Kilo-class submarines, boasting enhanced acoustic stealth and combat systems. It has a displacement of approximately 1,000 tons and a length of 58.8 meters. The submarine can reach speeds of up to 20 knots and operate autonomously for up to 30 days. The submarine is armed with four 533 mm torpedo tubes, capable of carrying up to 16 torpedoes, missiles, or mines. The design features include a single-hull architecture, an automated combat control system, and an electric propulsion system to minimize noise. The Amur 950 is intended for a variety of naval environments and missions, including reconnaissance and covert operations.

Rubin has also developed other submarine designs, such as the Amur e600 with all-electric propulsion and the Arcturus class of ballistic missile submarines.
