A new cruise missile for the Russian Su-57 has been shown for the first time in images leaked on social media.
Developed by missile maker, Tactical Missiles Armament Concern the stealth tactical missile is called “monochrome” and designated as S-71M. It is is also classified as a stealth attack UAV and could be guided to its target from the aircraft before striking.
In the images, it is shown strapped to the underwing pylons of the Su-57 fighter jet and wrapped in an orange foil to hide its true shape.
The fuselage layout of the experimental prototype of the missile has a square cross-section adapted for placement in the internal weapons compartments of the Su-57, as well as the heavy strike and reconnaissance UAV S-70 Okhotnik-B. In addition, the missile/UAV has a trapezoidal shape, which will allow the aircraft to remain stealthy for enemy radars.
The S-71M missile is equipped with a small-sized turbofan engine with a thrust of 175-220 kg. The estimated mass of the penetrating-fragmentation-high-explosive warhead can reach 100-150 kg. The
flight profile is ultra-low-altitude with terrain following at flight levels of 75-20 m above ground and 15-5 m above water surfaces.
The drone has a modular warhead and an electro-optical guidance system. The latter uses a channel for transmitting information through the operator and can operate at any time of the day. After the operator confirms the targets, the UAV is able to use its own capabilities to search for and destroy objects
Report say there are two versions of the missile/drone - S-71M “Monochrome” and S-71K “Carpet.” The latter is a dedicated an air-to-ground missile. The expected EOP of the product is about 0.007 - 0.01 sq. m at a flight speed of 0.95 M and a range of 200 - 350 km.
