The Chief of the Australian Army has officially declared the Final Operating Capability (FOC) for Boeing’s Integrated Battlefield Telecommunications Network in the LAND 2072 Phase 2B program.
This network, developed by Boeing Defence Australia (BDA), is part of the Currawong Battlespace Communications System, which aims to modernize the Australian Army's communications infrastructure.
The Currawong system provides deployed forces with enhanced access to voice, data, and video services on the battlefield.
The project is supported by a Capability Enhancement Strategy, which aims to keep the system resilient against emerging threats by incorporating new technologies to meet evolving operational demands. The Currawong network forms part of a broader effort by BDA’s Battlespace Communications System Enterprise to develop advanced communications capabilities for the Australian Defence Force.
A key feature of the system is the Joint Black Core Network, which forms the backbone of the communications infrastructure. This network is designed to integrate seamlessly into the broader joint force C4 (Command, Control, Communications, and Computers) system, ensuring a single, unified communications network for the Australian military.
The Currawong technology has already been selected for use in several programs and platforms, including Army vehicles and the AIR6500 program, highlighting its role in the future of Australia’s defense communications.
