GM Defense Proposes Infantry Squad Vehicle for British Army's Light Tactical Mobility Needs

GM Defense's Light Tactical Vehicle, known in the U.S. Army as the Infantry Squad Vehicle (ISV), has been submitted as a candidate for the British Army's new light tactical mobility platform.

This vehicle can transport up to nine troops and carry 1.4 tonnes of equipment. Recently, it was evaluated by the 16 Air Assault Brigade during Project Convergence in the U.S.

The ISV features an ergonomic design that allows for quick adjustments between two-wheel and four-wheel drive while in motion. With advanced suspension, the vehicle is capable of gliding over rough terrain, providing speed and maneuverability essential for special operations forces.

The ISV is built on the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 platform and utilizes 90 percent Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) parts, including components from Chevrolet Performance, which enhance its off-road capabilities. It can be air-dropped or transported by helicopters, enhancing its versatility as an ultra-light tactical vehicle.

The vehicle is powered by a GM Duramax 2.8L turbo diesel I4 engine paired with a six-speed GM Hydro-Matic 6L50 transmission. Safety is prioritized with a Roll Over Protection System (ROPS). The ISV also includes customizable kits for various mission profiles, such as CASEVAC for transporting wounded personnel, infrared lighting options, and mounts for heavy weaponry like the M240 and M2. Its modular design enables integration across the ISV family of vehicles, supporting diverse operational requirements.
