Germany Approves 48-Hour Army Spare Parts Logistics Contract with ESG
Representational

The German Bundestag has approved a 10-year contract with ESG to manage the German military’s "Central Bundeswehr Spare Parts Logistics" (ZEBEL) system, ensuring 48-hour delivery of supplies for land and airborne weapon systems.

The agreed scope of services includes several core tasks. These tasks involve the provision and order-related commissioning of supplies for the maintenance of predominantly land-based weapon systems within a timeframe of 24 to 48 hours. Additionally, the services encompass material and data management for the Bundeswehr's non-autonomous federal warehouses, particularly focusing on maintenance companies for predominantly airborne weapon systems. Furthermore, the scope includes the connection of the contractor's IT system to the Bundeswehr's IT system, which will facilitate the mapping of logistical processes and the provision of logistical data within the Bundeswehr's logistics system.

ZEBEL is a vital component of the Bundeswehr's logistics, ensuring the quick provision and commissioning of supplies for the maintenance of land-based and airborne weapon systems. ESG is investing in a newly constructed, environmentally friendly facility to optimize logistics and infrastructure for the project. This facility will triple the material handling capacity while maintaining a compact footprint. The updated logistics system will also significantly reduce energy costs, contributing to both environmental sustainability and operational readiness. ESG, part of the HENSOLDT Group since April 2024, is a key provider of complex electronic and IT systems for the defense and security sectors. It will continue to enhance the Bundeswehr’s operational efficiency under the new ZEBEL contract.
