Airbus Defence and Space plans to reduce up to 2,500 positions in its workforce by mid-2026 due to ongoing challenges in the defense and space sectors.
The company said it will reduce positions, especially in the Space Systems segment, where significant financial charges were recorded in 2023 and 2024.
The intended measures include the creation of a more effective organizational structure, focusing on accountability for business lines such as Air Power, Space Systems, and Connected Intelligence. Airbus has initiated discussions with its social partners regarding this proposed adaptation, with an information and consultation process set to follow.
Mike Schoellhorn, CEO of Airbus Defence and Space, highlighted the impact of a rapidly changing business environment, including disrupted supply chains and increased cost pressures due to budget constraints. He noted that while previous transformation efforts have begun to yield improvements in operational performance and risk management, further adjustments are necessary to navigate an increasingly difficult space market.
Schoellhorn emphasized Airbus's commitment to responsible employment practices, stating that the company aims to work with social partners to mitigate the impact of job reductions through available social measures. Further details of the restructuring plan will be outlined in collaboration with these partners.
