The Finnish Armed Forces will procure an all-new all-new multiple barrel rocket system (MLRS) for use by the Finnish Army.
A procurement budget of EUR 4.7 million has been allotted for the purpose, a Finnish MoD release said.
Details of the MLRS which have not been revealed yet.
The MLRS was developed in cooperation between the Defence Forces and Patria. With the new systems, the Defence Forces will have more mobile firing units and greater firing dispersion than before, the release said.
The MLRS will be used in combat support operations. In future, they will have a growing role as troops’ own unit of heavy indirect fire.
“The procurement will not only reinforce the Army’s capabilities, but it will also strengthen the domestic security of supply for defence materiel,” Minister of Defence Antti Häkkänen said in the release.
The procurement is included in the defence administration’s planned budgetary framework.
