Elbit Systems announced a follow-on contract award worth approximately $127 million to supply its Iron Fist Active Protection System (APS) for integration into the U.S. Army’s Bradley M2A4E1 Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs).
Under the contract, the Israeli defense technology firm will provide these systems to General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (GD-OTS), which is responsible for upgrading the Bradley vehicles. The contract, focused on enhancing the survivability of the U.S. Army’s IFVs against evolving battlefield threats, is scheduled for completion within 34 months.
The Iron Fist APS is a hard-kill active protection system developed by Elbit Systems to enhance the self-defense capabilities of both light and heavy armored platforms. Designed for maximum efficiency, the system features low requirements for space, weight, and power, making it suitable for integration into various armored vehicles, including the Bradley M2A4E1.
The system provides 360-degree protection for armored platforms by detecting, tracking, and neutralizing incoming threats. The Iron Fist APS is capable of countering a broad spectrum of anti-tank threats, including Anti-Tank Rockets (ATR), Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGM), and loitering munitions. It also offers defense capabilities against Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), providing comprehensive protection for combat vehicles operating in both open battlefields and complex urban environments.
