The Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has signed INR 2,960 crore ($355 million) contract with Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) for the supply of Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missiles (MRSAM) to the Indian Navy.

The contract was finalized on January 16 in New Delhi.

The Medium Range Surface-to-Air Missile (MRSAM) system enhances the Indian Navy's air defense against threats like aircraft, missiles, drones, and helicopters. Featuring Command and Active Radar Seeker (RF) dual guidance, it is compatible with various naval platforms and planned for future ship integration, bolstering maritime security.

The vertically launched, supersonic MRSAM is used by the Army, Navy, and Air Force to counter aerial threats. It has a 70 km range, dual-pulse solid motor propulsion, and Thrust Vector Control (TVC) with aerodynamic guidance. Equipped with a pre-fragmented warhead and proximity fuse, it has a 230-second flight time, measures 4,500 mm in length, 225 mm in diameter, weighs 275 kg, and supports vertical launch from ships or vehicles.
