Boeing has partnered with Norsk e-Fuel to support one of Europe’s first industrial-scale Power-to-Liquids (PtL) facilities, advancing sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) production in the Nordics and worldwide.
This collaboration aligns with the aviation industry’s and ICAO member states’ goal to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2050.
Norsk e-Fuel's electro-SAF (e-SAF) production involves using fossil-free energy to generate green hydrogen, which is combined with recycled CO₂ from biogenic sources. This process can cut lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions by over 90% compared to conventional jet fuel.
SAF accounted for only 0.53% of global commercial fuel use in 2024, but initiatives like RefuelEU aim to increase SAF usage to 6% by 2030 and 70% by 2050, with specific targets for e-SAF. Boeing’s investment is expected to strengthen EU SAF commitments, enhance energy security in the Nordics, and support global SAF commercialization.
Boeing and Norsk e-Fuel’s partnership combines technological expertise and regional industry connections, including collaboration with Norwegian, Norway’s largest air carrier.
