The barge shock tests for the propulsion system of the F110 frigate being built for the Spanish Navy were completed on November 28, marking the final phase of planned testing.
The tests, conducted on the “Shock Test Vehicle STV02” at Limehillock, Scotland, assessed the electric motor and frequency converter under simulated combat conditions.
These tests follow earlier evaluations in October for the diesel generator, main switchboard, and fuel purifier module. The process involved Navantia, Thornton Tomasetti Defence Ltd (TTDL), and Ingeteam, the manufacturer of the propulsion equipment. Representatives from the Spanish Ministry of Defence, the F110 Programme Office of the Directorate General of Armament and Material (DGAM), and U.S. company Element also attended.
All tested equipment has been transported back to Navantia’s Ferrol shipyard before being returned to their respective factories for reconditioning and additional factory tests. The evaluations ensure compliance with both British and U.S. military regulations, confirming the system’s ability to withstand external conditions.
