India will unveil a full-size engineering model of the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) at Aero India 2025 starting February 10.
Developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA), with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited as manufacturing partner, the AMCA is a twin-engine, multi-role stealth fighter designed to leapfrog the Indian Air Force (IAF) beyond the current fleet of mainly 4 and 4++ generation aircraft.
The 25 ton AMCA is expected to have technologies found in some of the most advanced fighters in the world such as the F-35 and Su-57, including an AI-powered Pilot for split-second decision-making, Network Centric Warfare capability, an Internal Weapon Bay for enhanced stealth, and a Vehicle Health Management system for predictive maintenance.
A standout feature of AMCA's development is its deep integration of artificial intelligence which will enhance situational awareness, identify threats automatically, assist in complex combat scenarios, and enable coordination with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
India’s HAL has already signed up with GE Aerospace to acquire the F414-GE-INS6 afterburning turbofan for the AMCA program. The AMCA jets will be twin-engine aircraft, and initially each will be powered by two F414s.
