The Indian Air Force (IAF) has grounded the entire fleet of Sukhoi-30MKI fighter aircraft for precautionary checks following crash of one of the jets in Rajasthan. The IAF has sought the help of Russia and the Hindustan Aeronautics Limited to investigate the crash near Pokhran in which both the pilots bailed out to safety. India has 105 Sukhoi fighters in its fleet. The crash near Pokhran happened during a fire power exercise. Preliminary indications suggest the jet crashed due to a technical defect. A Sukhoi fighter had crashed in April as well because of technical defects. Design problems and system malfunctions were reported to have caused the mishap. Indian defence minister A.K. Antony said in Rajya Sabha last week that 12 aircraft, including seven fighters, had been lost this year.
