British Prime Minister Keir Starmer today announced that the U.K., France and 1 or 2 more powers will collaborate on a ceasefire plan aimed at ending the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia.

In an interview to the BBC this morning, Keir_Starmer said, “This is about peace in Europe and the best outcome for Ukraine. That’s what I’m focused on.”

The British PM’s ceasefire initiative comes just a day after the U.K. signed a 2.26 billion pound ($2.85 billion) loan deal with Ukraine to buy weapons despite a tense meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump in Washington, where the former declined to sign a minerals-for- U.S. arms deal for weapons already provided to Ukraine.

“We've now agreed that the United Kingdom, along with France and possibly 1 or 2 others, will work with Ukraine on a plan to stop the fighting. And then we'll discuss that plan with the United States.”

"We've got to probably get a coalition of the willing... I think the UK and France are the most advanced in thinking on this."

In addition, PM Keir Starmer says he is working on a "plan" with France's President Macron to increase security in Europe.

The funds are provided for 30 years and will be used to finance the purchase of defense products in accordance with the needs of the Ukrainian side, as well as to strengthen defense capabilities and weapons production in Ukraine.

"The UK continues to stand by Ukraine's defense. And today's agreement, which helps strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities, is a confirmation of this. I am grateful to the British government for this support and personally to Rachel Reeves for the significant efforts that contributed to this agreement ," the Minister of Finance of Ukraine said.
