The French Armaments Directorate General (DGA) has delivered the first three unprotected VLTP (Multipurpose Light Tactical Vehicle) medical vehicles to the armed forces on March 26, 2025.
These vehicles, ordered in December 2023 through the UGAP public purchasing center from Ford and French SME BSE, are part of the DGA’s reactive acquisition force (FAR).
A total of 103 vehicles will be delivered under the second phase of the "Light Tactical Multi-Purpose Vehicle" (VLTP) program, following the initial delivery of 4,380 VT4 tactical vehicles. Designed to transport a medical team consisting of a doctor, nurse, and paramedic, the VLTP ambulances can accommodate a casualty in a lying-down position for in-transit monitoring.
The new medical vehicles will support operational preparation activities in mainland France and overseas territories while also serving in internal operations and humanitarian relief efforts. The broader VLTP program is aimed at equipping all three branches of the armed forces, as well as other military and security entities, with a new generation of light vehicles suited to different mission contexts.
The VLTP fleet includes two categories: unprotected variants, such as command-liaison (VT4) and medical (VLTP NP SAN), and protected variants, including the SERVAL SCORPION support vehicle and the V2P multi-purpose vehicle.
