Sweden has unveiled its largest-ever military support package to Ukraine, valued at nearly SEK 16 billion taking the total for 2025 to SEK 29.5 billion ($2.9 billion), which includes key donations of air defense systems and armored vehicles to strengthen Ukraine’s defense capabilities.
This announcement, Sweden's 19th aid package to Ukraine, brings the country’s total military support to Ukraine in 2025 to SEK 29.5 billion raising its total contributions since 2022 to approximately SEK 80 billion ($14.5 billion). The new package includes crucial military assistance, including air defense systems, artillery, maritime equipment, and satellite communication, addressing Ukraine’s immediate defense needs.
"With this aid package, Sweden demonstrates that more can be done for Ukraine. It will be of great help to the Ukrainian society, the Ukrainian Armed Forces, and Ukraine’s defence industry," Pål Jonson, Sweden’s Minister for Defence, said.
The new support package also involves the Swedish government’s decision to move funds from 2026 to 2025, enabling the increase in economic support to Ukraine.
This package includes SEK 9.2 billion ($1.7 billion) for the acquisition of various defense materials, including ammunition, armored vehicles, air defense systems, and maritime equipment, sourced from Swedish, Nordic, and European defense industries. Alongside this, SEK 5 billion ($910 million) will be allocated for financial donations to multilateral funds, further facilitating Ukraine’s defense efforts through international partnerships.
Sweden will also contribute materiel from its own armed forces, including medical service vehicles, training weapons, and small-caliber ammunition, valued at SEK 500 million ($90 million). In addition, SEK 11 million ($2 million) will be directed toward Sweden’s Defence Research Agency (FOI) to support innovative defense technologies, such as CBRN (chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear) analysis and advanced drone detection systems. SEK 500 million ($90 million) in export credit guarantees will also be offered to Swedish defense companies to help them provide essential materiel to Ukraine.
Furthermore, SEK 573 million ($104 million) will be used to maintain Swedish military equipment already provided to Ukraine, ensuring its operational effectiveness. Lastly, SEK 140 million ($25 million) will be allocated to civil defense support in Ukraine, benefiting agencies like the Swedish Coast Guard and Psychological Defense Agency.
