Poland's Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz met with Airbus President Guillaume Faury on March 31 to discuss acquiring transport aircraft and aerial refueling platforms to enhance national defense.
Kosiniak-Kamysz emphasized the critical importance of Airbus as a reliable partner in advancing Poland’s military capabilities. This meeting comes at a pivotal time, as Poland faces increasing geopolitical threats and a recognized gap in air superiority and logistical support.
"Airbus could prove to be a valuable partner, especially in strengthening our air transport and refueling capabilities," Kosiniak-Kamysz said.
Airbus A400M and A330 platforms are possible solutions to meet these demands, alongside alternatives like the Boeing KC-46 Pegasus, Embraer C-390, and Lockheed Martin KC-130J Super Hercules.
The Polish government’s interest in acquiring combined transport and aerial refueling capabilities is not new but was reignited due to evolving threats in Europe. Poland had previously abandoned efforts to develop these capabilities years ago but now sees them as crucial to national security. “I am a great advocate of Poland acquiring combined transport and air refueling capabilities. This project was abandoned many years ago, unfortunately, the Polish Army and Air Force have not acquired these capabilities to this day,” Kosiniak-Kamysz said last month.
This meeting builds on the positive momentum of Poland’s ongoing partnership with Airbus, particularly following the recent December 2024 contract to modernize and unify the Polish Army's fleet of C-295M CASA transport aircraft. The modernization of 16 aircraft will enhance their capabilities, including avionics, communications, and self-defense systems, further bolstering Poland’s military readiness.
