Russian forces have demonstrated ambush-and-destroy tactics in Ukraine where drones drop iron spikes in the path of wheeled vehicles and FPV drones explode on them when they slow down or stop.
The tactic was detailed in a video published in one of the Russian Telegram channels. It is reported that such tactics are used by units of the 14th Separate Guards Special Forces Brigade of the Vostok group.
The driver of the wheeled vehicle, moving at high speed to dodge FPV drones, does not notice the spiked obstacle - as a result, the rubber wheels are damaged, and the vehicle loses momentum or slows down significantly. After that, FPV drones strike from the top or sides.
Such spikes may not pose a serious threat to armored vehicles equipped with a centralized tire inflation system and runflat inserts that allow movement even with punctured wheels.
However, for wheeled vehicles without these systems, which are in significant number in Ukraine, such tactics create a major problem, effectively stopping them in open terrain and making them an easy target for attacks, Ukrainian media reported.
Motorcycle swarms
It was recently reported that Russian troops attempted a massive assault on the Pokrovsky direction using about a hundred motorcycles, a significant number of armored vehicles, and motor vehicles.
Using "swarms" of 30–50 motorcyclists, it allows to minimize the time spent in open areas, and therefore reduces the risk of rapid detection and enemy attack.
In addition, defenders have significantly less time to detect targets, aim, and open fire, as motorcyclists can maneuver and quickly change direction.
