Lockheed Martin today announced that the first C-130J Hercules bound for India ran its engines for the first time on Tuesday, Sept 21. The aircraft are scheduled for their first flight in October. The aircraft is equipped with a distinctive aerial refuelling probe in accordance with Indian requirements. The first of India's C-130J Hercules transporters are likely to be delivered during February 2011. The C-130Js will fulfil a unique role for the Indian Air Force, that of a rapid deployable transporter, capable of taking off and landing on small improvised airfields. It can transport a complement of commandos, vehicles and weapons as well as humanitarian aid in adverse weather conditions. The IAF ordered the C-130Js during 2008.
