Routine Mission Goes Awry, UAV Crashes in South India

Officials have confirmed crash of a Navy Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) near Visakhapatnam in the east coast of India. The Searcher MK-II UAV was returning to its base, hovered over the INS Dega for a few minutes before losing control and crashing into a hill on Thursday. The crash took place around 2.30 pm above populated Ganapathi Nagar, located on the hill slopes. The Eastern Naval Command issued a statement saying there were no causalities or damage to property and added that the UAV was on a routine mission. Naval Helicopters swooped over the region just minutes after the crash and retrieved a box and some other parts of the UAV from the crash site.
