Sea trials of the soon to be renamed INS Vikramaditya is expected to be delayed until the beginning of June, Sevmash Shipyard said on Wednesday. The aircraft carrier known as Admiral Gorshkov, currently being assembled in northern Russia, was purchased in 2005. The cost of refurbishing the carrier has gone up from $947 million to $2.3 billion. “The start of the sea trials has been moved to the beginning of June,” a Sevmash spokesman said. Trials were originally scheduled for May 25 but have now been delayed due to poor weather forecast in the White Sea and Barents Sea. The Indian Navy is expected to take delivery of the Admiral Gorshkov in December 2012.
