Russian Helicopters, part of the Russian state defence industry holding Oboronprom, a subsidiary of Russian Technologies Corporation, have announced the development of a comprehensive avionics system for monitoring flight conditions, autopilot landing and collision avoidance will be installed on all new Russian-made helicopters starting in 2015. The announcement was made on the second day of the international Engineering Technologies – 2012 forum. The helicopters crew’s awareness of a situation will be heightened by the new system which will transmit information to the cockpit about the aircraft’s position and environment as well as providing the pilot with images of the topography of the surrounding environment, including during maneuvers at low altitudes in difficult weather conditions at any time of day. The new avionics suite will be built based on existing and newly developed systems and will provide various configurations to accurately find local positioning and also allow the helicopter to automatically hover above a given point and land automatically. Pilots will also become aware of dangers in a landing zone as the system issues warnings about proximity to threats as the chopper constantly updates and refines cartographical information.
