India and Egypt have agreed to set up a framework to improve defense ties between the two nations during a meeting between visiting Egyptian Defence Minister Gen. Abdel Fattah al Sisi and Indian Defence Minister A.K. Antony.

In 2006, a Joint Defence Committee was established between the two countries but very little work has been done, according to an Indian Defence Ministry official.

“It was agreed that there was scope for enhancing bilateral defense cooperation in various areas, including by way of increased interactions between the Armed Forces of both countries and through technology collaboration between industries,” says an MoD statement.

Egypt also has shown interest in taking help from Indian engineers to maintain defense systems, and working closely to develop advanced electronics and navigation, according to reports.
