BAE Systems has announced that it has won a $34 million U.S Air Force contract to provide secure and reliable line-of-sight identification to distinguish friend from foe during missions.
The Mode 5 Advanced Identification Friend or Foe systems is used to identify and track military aircraft.
Sal Costa, BAE product line director for identification and processing solutions, said the system is designed to help warfighters identify hostile forces beyond the pilot’s visual range. According to BAE, the system contains new algorithms and is designed to transmit data and messages securely.
