The first two Brazilian Army armored vehicles has been delivered to Suriname.
Brazil's initiative is part of the bilateral cooperation and commitment by the Defense Minister Celso Amorim, when he visited Suriname in September 2012.
Minister Amorim considers it important for Brazil to expand opportunities for military cooperation with the countries of the northern cone and ranked as "partners in building a security community in South America."
Two more Cascavel armored vehicles, also produced by the now-defunct Engesa company, are in the final stages of refurbishing at the army’s Regional Maintenance Facility in Rio de Janeiro. The agreement also provides for the training of the neighboring country in logistics sustainability.
The refurbishment of the vehicles was managed by the Brazilian Army’s Logistics Command, and transport to Suriname was made by the Brazilian Navy’s landing ship, Admiral Saboia.
