BAE Systems recently received a $38.6 million contract for work on the destroyer USS Benfold from the U.S. Navy.
The Benfold is an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, with the powerful AEGIS combat systems suite and anti-aircraft missiles, ASW (Anti-submarine warfare), with towed sonar array, anti-submarine rockets, and ASW helicopter, ASUW (Anti-surface warfare) with a Harpoon missile launcher, and strategic land strike using Tomahawk missiles. And is the most widely-used ship of its type in the U.S. Navy.
The deal is a modification to a previously awarded cost-plus-award-fee contract. The work is expected to be complete by this time next year.
The Benfold had been on a seven-month deployment last December in North Korea, and returned home on 11 January 2013.
